The New Zealand Government is currently a pilot program for US and European citizens, in which they will allow them to enter the country without a visa. The pilot program is only available until September 30th, 2019. After this date, applications will not be accepted and all new arrivals will have to have a standard visa application process. Visa Requirements
If you are a citizen of the United States or of any European Union country, you can apply for a New Zealand visa through an overseas embassy or consulate. The application process is straightforward and can be completed in just a few hours. You will need to provide your passport information, as well as your airline ticket details if you are coming to New Zealand on vacation. If you are coming to work in New Zealand, you will also need to provide evidence of your income and job responsibilities.
New Zealand citizens do not require a visa to enter the United States, but they must have proof of citizenship (a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued identification) and a return airfare. Citizens of Canada and Mexico can stay for up to three months without a visa if they have proof of onward travel and no criminal convictions.
EU citizens can visit New Zealand for up to 90 days without a visa regardless of their destination country. Australian citizens should check the Australian Embassy website for specific information about visiting New Zealand.
Obtaining a Visa
If you are a United States citizen, the easiest way to obtain a New Zealand visa is through your passport. However, if you are a European citizen, you will need to apply for a visa through one of the New Zealand embassies or consulate in your home country. NEW ZEALAND VISA FOR EUROPEAN CITIZENS

For United States citizens, the most common requirement is that you have a valid passport with at least six months remaining before your intended departure from New Zealand. In addition, they must provide proof of financial support and sufficient funds to cover their stay in New Zealand. Finally, they must also provide evidence that they have no criminal record in their home country.

Processing Times for United States Citizens
As of October 1, 2017, the processing time for a U.S. visa has decreased to 10 days. For most tourist visas, the processing time is three to five business days. However, if you are applying for any type of work or study visa, the processing time can be much longer, typically taking up to two months. If you are applying through a travel agency or another individual instead of applying directly with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, it might take even longer because these agencies often do not have direct contact with U.S. officials and must go through an intermediary.
